Why Supplements?

Why Supplements are MUST for everyone?

Doctors don’t know the value of Nutritional Medicine!!!

In our country doctors are mostly disease oriented. Doctors study diseases and look for disease. They pharmacologically (drugs) treat the diseases. We all don't know how our body absorbs each drug and metabolizes it and excretes it. Lots of drugs are taken by patients every day for small health issues. Do we all know what happens to our body if we take such drugs which are some chemical molecules? Most of us don't care for our health till we end up with some diseases. Then we start spending more money and time, even doing that so we end up with restricted mobility. Why so?

Because during the drugs, therapy most of doctors don't prescribe Nutritional supplements (or) even if they prescribe patients don't take it because they think it is unnecessary. This leads to lots & lots of unwanted things happening to our body like a World War II. It is called Free Radical Damage which leads you to Chronic Diseases. You can prevent it by inducing lot of anti-oxidants to your body. It is possible only through supplements.

Why Supplements?
We should take supplements based on three different factors:

  1. Food Choices
  2. Life Stages
  3. Environmental and lifestyle factors

1.      Food Choices - the quantity and quality of food we eat:
There are several factors that can lead to less than a perfect diet.
  • Lack of variety - we tend to eat the same foods every day. But greater the variety of foods we eat the more we are likely to meet our daily nutrient needs.
  • Flavor - we eat what tastes good, not necessarily what is good for us.
  • Low intake of fruit and vegetables - we are supposed to eat 5 or more servings of fruit and vegetables every day. But do we?
  • Convenience - we often choose our meals based on how easy they are to prepare and how fast we can eat them, rather than on how nutritious they are.
  • Skipping meals - missing meals may result in missing important nutrients.
  • Dieting - Restricting food intake makes us vulnerable to decreased vitamin and mineral intake.

2.      Life stages - Nutritional requirements vary with each stage of life:
  • Children and Adolescents - Rapid growth and development often increase the need for vitamins and minerals. Young children may be at particular risk for low calcium intake, and adolescents, especially teenage girls, tend to have low intakes of vitamin A, calcium, magnesium and zinc.
  • Middle age - The activities associated with a busy schedule, work, family, obligations and commitments, physical and emotional challenges can all put pressure on our nutrient needs.
  • Mature years - As we age, our bodies have to work harder to digest foods and properly absorb nutrients. Lack of exercise, lack of appetite, medications, can all make it more difficult to maintain a balanced diet.
  • Pregnancy and breast feeding - These stages significantly increase a woman's need for vitamins and minerals, especially iron, calcium and folic acid.
3.      Environmental and lifestyle factors:
  • Challenges - affect us in different ways. Whether it be physical, psychological or emotional challenges can be detrimental to health. Some effects that challenges may have on us are we may lose our appetite, skip meals, overeat, east sweets or empty calories food, smoke or drink.
  • Medication - These may inhibit or increase the absorption of nutrients, increase the loss of nutrients from the body or interfere with the metabolism of nutrients.
  • Smoking and air pollution - Smoking unnaturally increases the need for vitamin C. Exposure to cigarette smoke and polluted air may increase the production of damaging free radicals in the body, which requires an increases intake of antioxidant nutrients.
  • Drinking coffee and tea - Affect our bodies’ ability to digest the nutrients in food.
  • Heavy exercise - Those who train heavily need to pay special attention to diet to ensure appropriate levels of protein, iron and antioxidants are consumed.
  • Alcohol Consumption - Frequent consumption can impair digestion and absorption and directly interfere with the body's use of nutrients.
